11/8/2023 0 Comments Epic sports code![]() ![]() I’m not a big NFL futures bettor, but I might take the 30-1 there. Greenberg: I have the Steelers 30-1 to win the AFC and +450 to win the division on my list of possible bets. I think Kellen Moore is a big upgrade at offensive coordinator, and I think this team is a contender for big prizes. I think they’re due for some better injury luck. Though I’m fully aware that Brandon Staley may outsmart himself all the way to the unemployment line, I also want the Chargers over 9.5. I think he’s going to be better, and I think they’ll get a wildcard spot. I don’t think Pickett is going to be a superstar - or that he needs to be. Assuming health and continued development from Kenny Pickett, they’ll win 10. The defense still has the pieces, and Mike Tomlin’s track record says they’re going to be in the mix. I actually hate that they generated so much preseason hype, but I think George Pickens is going to take off. ![]() And I’ll start with your Steelers at +135 to make the playoffs. I gave you the first pick, so I’ll take the next two. I’ve got some other non-Packers picks, but I’ll let you chime in first. If you’re really feeling saucy, take Green Bay to win the NFC North at +350 or Matt LaFleur to win AP Coach of the Year at +1600. I’ll be in attendance Sunday for the Jordan Love era to begin. ![]() This could be disastrously wrong, but they only have to go 8-9. Greenberg: I will go with the Packers over 7.5 wins. Let’s draft some NFL futures and win totals. Maybe I can build one of my own with the damage we’re going to do this season. *I would never be invited to join an actual country club. With that Fresno money line winner, perhaps I can go buy a new laptop to replace the one that got stolen from my car at my local country club* last week. Like the rest of the football nerd world, I spent Tuesday afternoon feverishly clicking refresh while looking for Travis Kelce updates in one window while diving into NFL futures research in others. The other Miami was too much last week, and now the Redhawks are back in their weight class. A game in Nick Saban’s backyard isn’t probably going to change that.Īnd I like Miami (Ohio) -7 over UMass. Rice at halftime last week tells me its defense is ahead of the offense at this point. I always lean toward defense in these big early-season games, and Texas only being up 16-3 vs. The start of the NFL season has most of my attention this week, but I do have two immediate college plays. Jackson: The safest bet on the Duke-Clemson Labor Day spotlight game was that I’d be snoring by halftime, and that came home a winner. Thoughts on the week that was and the weekend that will be? Zac, you went 3-2 (with Fresno State ML at +130). For the low-stakes bettor, the free bet run is akin to those internet stories about turning a paper clip into a car.īut for our official picks, I went 1-2, hitting just Nebraska +7. I then took that $12.50 and put it on a UNC -2.5/Alabama -39.5 parlay (my can of Coke for the weekend) and then took that money and put it on FSU +1.5 and over 56.5. But, in another gambling lesson, I took Colorado +250 live with a $5 free bet with my account at zero. I thought the Horned Frogs would, to use a football term, out-physical Deion Sanders’ All-Star team. On the flip side, I took TCU -20.5 over Colorado. Duke has a good quarterback in Riley Leonard, but it’s Duke, right? Even the real college football fans who know the Blue Devils are much improved might’ve been tempted to roll with No. At first glance, Clemson getting just less than two touchdowns might seem like an easy pick. Still, I took the initial Duke bet in the interest of this column because for the common gambler (this obviously isn’t content for the sharps), the “too good to be true” line is an easy trap. And the end result is why I never do that. I had Duke +13 but then decided to shoot for a middle in the second quarter and had Clemson – 6.5. Greenberg: So how ’bout dem Blue Devils? While neither of us put Duke-Clemson on our best bets last week, I know if you’re like me, you had some interest in the game. We’ve asked them to stop but they keep sending in their bets. If you’re just joining us, longtime friends and former “quarter draft night” at The Greenery regulars Jon Greenberg and Zac Jackson are picking games and talking gambling every week. ![]()
